Help Grow Community Food & Medicine
Do you have a backyard? Are you interested in helping create local food systems and jobs in Seattle? Plot.twist is on a mission to reimagine how urban land is utilized by growing quality fruits and medicinal herbs to sell at market and distribute in the community. We call these “micro-orchards”. The way they operate is simple: we steward and harvest from a portion of your yard, where we’ve planted beautiful perennial crops like elderberry, fig, and salmonberry. We visit, after checking in with you, about once every two weeks on average, to prune, fertilize, water, or harvest. Ideally, a few of your neighbors are also participating so we can minimize fossil fuel usage and grow at scale. We take care of everything, and the only utility of yours we use is water, which we reimburse you for!
Each relationship looks different, but our “customer-members” are able to receive either a profit share, box of our fruit, the deep and true satisfaction of materially contributing to community and ecosystem health, or a combination of those things!
Our aim is to help build local, resilient (sub)urban food systems that are not built necessarily to profit, but to provide quality native and non-native fruit and plant-based medicine. Food systems that are less reliant on fossil fuels and maltreated labor; Food systems that re-establish connection to the land we inhabit. And to join us in building that, all you need to do is let us know if you’ve got some land you don’t use!
